Friday, Apr. 29th 2011

Every college student knows that while in college you have to write reference papers. Even if you do not go to college you might still be required to write a paper. In order to comprehend how to write a reference in a paper, you need to have the knowledge and attitude plus the ability and belief that you can write a paper. Before you know it, you will be an expert at writing papers.

When choosing a topic for your paper, you must choose something that is of interest to you because it makes writing more enjoyable. Do not choose too broad or too narrow topic. A broad topic will make it very time consuming to arrive at a conclusion. Too narrow a topic will not give you enough reliable information.

If you want to understand more about how to reference a term paper, look around for a good and reputable reference book. You will find useful tips and format instructions which will help you. Survey your resources. This will help you to determine the direction you should take in writing your paper. The sources can be taken from books, journals, videos or DVD’s, magazines or interviews. Ask the librarian for help on gathering your resources.

After gathering your resources you need to choose a thesis statement that will explain your topic. The thesis is usually in the opening paragraph, and this can be changed or revised later on.  The other paragraphs in your paper should support and prove your thesis statement.

Make your writing plan and outline. This is important in order of relevance, and the perfect way to break the paper down into manageable heading and paragraphs. Now your paper constitutes the thesis which is the beginning of the paper, the body of the paper supporting your thesis, and the end or conclusion which wraps up the paper, often paraphrasing your thesis statement.

After formulating your writing plan, you will make a rough draft. The rough draft will probably undergo many changes. As the draft progresses, make notes about such information as direct quotes that will need to be cited in the supporting paragraphs of your paper, and also in the bibliography of works. Write down page numbers and sources so that you will have no difficulty when you are completing or have to revise your paper.

After completion and before submission thoroughly edit the paper. Check your spellings and grammar, and have someone else read your paper critically. A second opinion can be valuable. This article will therefore help you in understanding how to write reference in a paper.
