High School Research Paper Topics

Thursday, Jun. 10th 2010

No student can avoid research papers and as much as he wishes he could, he can’t pray for a fairy godmother to write it up for him. Fact is that research papers can be quite exciting and fun to work on if the topic is powerful enough to attract you. If you are in a similar situation, it is essential that you find the best high school research paper topics to make sure that your paper is anything but ordinary.

The internet is a great place to look for these topics and jot down ideas that appeal to you. That being said, once you have at least 20-25 probable themes in mind, you should narrow the list down on the basis of practicality and scope. In other words none of the particulars on the semi-final list of topics should push you into doing something you aren’t comfortable with and at the same time, should have enough background material to support it. If you ignore this piece of advice and start your research on a vague and unusual topic, you will realize that there is very little material on it. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to decide on a topic that has been covered umpteen times either. The key here is to be smart but prudent at the same time.

Now that you have 4 or 5 feasible high school research paper topics in front of you, you should select the one that is capable enough to keep you on your feet till the end. It is important that you do this because otherwise, you will lose interest in the paper half-way through and the end result will be disappointing. In addition to that, it should cover one specific event, person or problem- you can’t write a successful research paper on a general or broad topic.

A research paper is about creating an opinion and convincing the reader to make it his own. You can’t do this until and unless the topic has the ability to hold the reader’s interest as well. This means that you can’t only think about yourself when you are choosing a topic because otherwise, nobody but you will like the paper. So while the topic will cover an issue that you are enthusiastic about, it should also pique the reader’s curiosity and encourage him to move onto the body of the paper.
