Academic Paper Format

Once you have an interesting topic in mind and all the information that is needed to support your idea, you can begin writing your academic paper. Assuming that you have selected a topic that interests you, chances are that you will get carried away and end up making a mess of the paper. This is why you need to follow a certain format to make sure that the end product is neat and tidy.

The first thing you need to do is write out the title section- it is recommended that you mention the same on a separate page. The title section will cover particulars like your name, your professor’s name and the name of your course. The deadline will be written out in the corner and your main title will be featured underneath. The introduction of the academic paper will follow suit but make sure you leave a line in between. Many students make the mistake of underlining and darkening their titles. What they should do is write it out in the same font as the rest of the paper and keep it simple.

Some additional tips are as follows:

  1. The paper should be double spaced so that your teacher doesn’t have to squeeze in his comments and therefore, has enough space for suggestions and remarks.
  2. Your font should not be too fancy or small. In fact, you should stick to Times New Roman to be on the safer side.
  3. When you print out your paper, the text should cover only one side and the paper should be white.
  4. The paragraphs shouldn’t be placed too far apart from each other.
  5. An important element of an academic paper format is adding page numbers. Page number one will be the one that holds the introductions and not the title page.

Lastly, you have to provide a list of citations in the end unless of course you haven’t used any external resources at all. It doesn’t matter if you have used a myriad of sources- you have to mention the names of all the web pages, books and journals that helped you in your research. The outline of this page depends on you and the nature of the text.

If you stick to this basic format and you are sure that your information is concrete and solid, nothing can stop you from getting that A plus!
